FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between steel doors and wrought iron doors?

Wrought iron doors are ornamental and heavy, built from thick forged or cast profiles with scrollwork and comparatively small glass. Modern custom steel doors offer slimmer sightlines, larger panes, and tighter tolerances. Mod Metal Doors builds hand-welded steel, the slimmer and stronger evolution of the iron door, not cast ornamental iron.

Are custom steel doors worth it?

For the homes we build for, yes. A custom steel door is drawn to your exact opening, welded by hand, and holds its line for decades: frame, glass, hardware, and finish all chosen for the specific home rather than a catalog average. It is a permanent piece of the architecture, not a replaceable fixture.

Do you make standard sizes?

No. Mod Metal Doors doesn't stock standard sizes. Every door is drawn to your opening and elevation, which is the point: the proportions come from the architecture, not from what a warehouse carries.

How long does a custom steel door take?

Fabrication typically runs 4–6 weeks, depending on complexity, after field measurements are taken and CAD shop drawings are approved. Everything is built in Central Texas and installed statewide by the same team.
